Discussion 3.1 Problem #15
• Select the “Problems” tab to choose a problem that you will demonstrate how to solve. Be sure to review existing posts before making your selection so that you do not select a problem that another classmate has selected. Only in the case that every problem has been selected, you may select a problem from the exercises included in this week’s text readings.
• In capital letters, the first line of your post should be: “PROBLEM NUMBER ##”.
(Replace “##” with the problem number you choose.)
This requirement is to make it easy for students to review the post for problems that have already been selected and ensure that they do not select one that has already been demonstrated.
• Copy and paste the problem you select into your original post. (You may want to use a snipping tool or take a screenshot and then insert the image as described below.)
• Begin with a narrative that
o identifies the key concept(s) being explored in this problem (from the list on the “Key Concepts” tab); and
o explains something about that key concept and how it relates to this problem.
• Demonstrate how to solve the problem.
o Show each step of your work in your demonstration. If you use technology, explain how.
Note: if you are unsure of which steps to demonstrate in your presentation, find a similar problem in one of the two MyLabs for this week. Use the “View an Example” or “Help Me Solve This Tool” for the MyLab problem as a guide for the work that you should show. Similarly, you might find a similar problem in the text readings and demonstrate your solution as modeled in the text.
• After solving the problem, state the solution and explain what it means.
• To complete your original post, develop a similar problem for one of your classmates to solve. You should not solve this problem but may want to reply to any classmate who attempts to solve it as a reply to your post.
Find the z-scores for which about 68% of the distribution’s area lies between −z and z.
a.
-z = (Round to two decimal places.)
z = (Round to two decimal places.)
b. Sketch a graph of the standard normal distribution and shade the appropriate area to indicate what these values for -z and z mean. Also explain what this value means in words.
