Choose any 2 questions to answer in essay format. Please cite any sources used.
1. Discuss Progressivism – What was this reform movement all about? What areas of life did it hope to reform? Choose an area: Social/Political/Economic to explain your answer. You may combine them but support each area you choose to discuss. Be as specific as possible.
2. Discuss the Progressive Era Presidents and their administrations – Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson. How were they similar and in what ways were they different in their approaches to progressivism? Be as specific as possible (Note: if you answer Question 1, you may not also do this question as well)
3. Discuss the “Roaring Twenties” – What made them “Roar”? What was happening in America socially, economically and politically during this decade? Be as specific as possible
4. Discuss the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression. What were the causes? How did it effect people in the United States? Did the government change it’s role in trying to help the country out of the Depression? How? Be as specific as possible.
5. Discuss World War II – What brought our involvement in this war? Who were the key players and what was our strategy? What changes did this bring about domestically? Be as specific as possible. (Note: if you answer this question, you may not also answer question 6)
6. Pretend you are an advisor to President Harry S. Truman during World War II. You have been working on a secret weapon to be know as the Atomic Bomb (Manhattan Project). The President is receiving advice both in favor and against using this weapon. You must write a persuasive essay either in favor or opposing its use. You may choose either side but you should use facts to support your position, not just opinion. Please format this essay in the form of a letter to President Harry S. Truman.
