Choose two of the above websites. Examine these initiatives to understand what their goals are, what actions they take to achieve them, and how they are organized. Pay special attention to information on links such as “about”, “goals”, “mission”, “programs”, “services”, and the like. Do not just choose one article or page from each web site–you must understand and write about the organizations as a whole.
Write a cohesive essay, double-spaced, 750 words, in which you apply Conley’s theories (Ch. 18) of collective action, social movements, social movement organizations, and social change to these initiatives. Compare and contrast the goals, scope, and tactics of the two organizations in your essay. You will lose points if you do not apply material from Conley in your discussion.
Discuss the issues in your own words; do not rely on direct quotes to present information, either from Conley or from the websites. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to apply the sociological imagination to real-world documents (e.g., the organizations’ websites).
Adhere to page limits; cite properly information from Conley, your chosen websites, and any other sources you use in your paper (refer to the links under my picture on our course home page for proper citation format). Be sure your paper is free of grammatical and spelling errors prior to submission. Due in the Assignment Dropbox as indicated on the D2L Calendar.
