Writing Assignment
History
Paper: Three to five pages in length, one-inch margins, twelve point Times New Roman/Calibri type, double spaced, Turabian/Chicago (author-date) format
Points: Annotated Bibliography (50 points); Paper (150 points)
I like the use of films and video clips as a visual way of interacting with history. However, not all clips or films that are available are completely accurate in their representation of history. Thus, our written assignment for this semester will be over the historical accuracy of a film of your choosing. This response paper should state enough about the movie to convince me that you watched it but should also include your opinion and/or feelings about the movie. Discuss the historical authenticity of the movie and how it relates to what we have discussed in class, what you have read in the textbook, and the research you have performed over the accuracy of the film. Databases and historical articles about the movie are necessary for you in making your assessment of the film. (I highly suggest directly quoting an article in your paper.)
You must furnish parenthetical referencing in the body of the essay (author, date, page number.) Turabian/Chicago resource site: https://chicagomanualofstyle.org/turabian/turabian-author-date-citation-quick-guide.html
You must have a clearly labeled “Reference List” at the conclusion of your paper. Use Turabian when citing and referencing sources. Sources should not include Wikipedia or any other encyclopedia type information. Sites such as Whitehouse.gov; non-credentialed blog sites; textbooks or instructor’s notes. The ACE Explorer on the Angelina College library website is an excellent source of resources that meet the standards of the assignment. Make sure to cite the movie as well on the Reference List page. Three or more citations are required.
List of Acceptable Movies: (All of these films can be found on Youtube)
One Night With the King (The Story of Esther)
