Your aim is to summarise the material and consider the implications of the events covered in each documentary. This assignment supports unit learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4. Assignment details You will be given five documentaries of which you will choose one to analyse in this assignment. You will choose two additional documentaries to analyse in Assignment 1B: Report. The following information provides detailed guidelines on how to complete the template for each documentary. Summary (250 words) In this section, briefly summarise the events covered in the documentary, indicating why these events came about and what happened. Include any additional background and contextual information where relevant. Write this section as objectively as possible, merely summarising the facts, rather than editorialising on the events. Key issues (750 words) In this section, you have the opportunity to make an argument criticising or defending the functioning of Australia’s governance institutions. You may consider the pros and cons of the relevant situation, but clearly indicate your opinion as to whether or not the events in the documentary uphold, or undermine, the democratic functioning of our governance institutions. Identify the Australian governance institutions, structures and concepts discussed in the documentary. Discuss the criticisms of these within the documentary (including both explicit and implicit criticisms). Consider whether or not the events covered in the documentary undermine, or uphold, ideals of representative government and democracy. Singleton et al. (2013) is a good starting place, however you will need to go beyond this source.
Discuss the criticisms of these within the documentary (including both explicit and implicit criticisms).
