Overview: For this assignment, you will evaluate the three categories of social value orientation. You will also discuss the prisoner’s dilemma and describe how the principles of the prisoner’s dilemma game make it an effective model for studying social dilemmas. Instructions: 1.) Read Chapter 18 from the course E-Text titled, Cooperation. (Link is below) 2.) Read the journal article: Resource and Public Goods Dilemmas: A New Issue for Communication Research (link is below) 3.) Research the three categories of Social Value Orientation and locate a real world social dilemma. 4.) Then, write a 500- word editorial discussing a real world social dilemma. Evaluate how the individual benefits and how this particular dilemma harms the collective group. Also, discuss Social Value Orientation and how it might apply to the concept of self-interest vs. cooperation. In your editorial, discuss what the prisoner’s dilemma is, and how it models social dilemmas. 5.) Please double space your paper, and remember this is a persuasive paper, so you want to convince your reader that your argument is valid. Start your editorial by stating your argument and create a fun title indicating the focus of your editorial. 6.) Remember to back up your own arguments by providing evidence from sources. Discuss specific experts in the field and what their views are, discuss statistics, and specific authors and facts from the research you located. 7.) Also, include a counter argument so you can discuss both sides of the issue. 8.) Editorials need to be written in your own words so make sure you are not copying ANY information from sources. You will not need to provide in-text citations, but you will need to add your sources in APA style at the bottom of your editorial in a reference list. You might refer to a source in your editorial which is quite common when editors are writing their articles, but you should use your own words and you don’t have to cite within your article.
