Each case study must include:
One patient infected with 2 pathogens from the table below (disease topic list #2). The 2 pathogens selected cannot come from the same classification, in other words, you cannot choose 2 bacteria for the case study. You must choose a bacteria and a virus, fungus and a protozoan, a helminth and a bacteria, etc, as long as the combination has 2 different types of pathogens for the case study
Patient’s age, gender, habits, lifestyle, diet, pets that live in the home or animals that patient has been in contact with. Make sure the pathogen is in the correct geographical region to infect your patient! Example: you cannot get Malaria on a cruise ship in Alaska
Any other underlying medical condition (pregnancy, HIV+, organ transplant, chemotherapy), occupation, travel history, vaccines received, medications presently being taken
The signs and symptoms the patient is presenting when he or she comes in seeking medical attention.
Possible transmission routes, diagnostic tests: blood work and results, culture results, staining results, antibody tests, DNA/RNA or PCR tests, where the patient sample was collected
Discuss prevention and treatment. Is there a vaccine available or in experimental trials? What is the best antibiotic or drug to treat these pathogens?
