Diet Analysis Summary Final
Worth 50 points
Now that you have reviewed the important elements of your diet, type a 4 to 6 page evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses you have identified in your personal diet for each section below. Include any changes that you have made in these areas over the semester. Type double-spaced.
1. Review prior chapter activities. Compose a separate paragraph for each section. The 7 sections are:
1. MyPlate (Chapter 2)
2. Carbohydrates (Chapter 4)
3. Fats and Health Effects of Fats (Chapter 5 and 11)
4. Protein (Chapter 6)
5. Micronutrients: Supplements, Vitamin C and Folate, Sodium and Potassium, Calcium and Iron (Chapters 7 and 8)
6. Weight Management (Chapter 9); and
7. Fitness (Chapter 10)
Including the following in each section:
• Discuss the major weaknesses you found in your diet (using the above activities) and the effects they may have on your health.
• Address each weakness with recommendations for foods that can be eliminated, replaced, or added using your diet.
• Discuss the major strengths you found in your diet (using the above activities) with examples of successful strategies you use.
• If you have made changes in any of these areas over the semester, be sure to include these.
Suggestion: Use the rubric on Canvas to help guide you as you write your summary (and to make sure you cover all the topics!)
2. For this next paragraph, create a plan you will implement for the improvement of your diet. Make sure your plans list at least 5 specific SMART goals to improve your diet and health. Your goals should be detailed such as:
“I have made five goals that I could stick to in order to improve my health. My 1st goal is to add more fruit to my diet. Next time I eat in the cafeteria I am going to grab one serving of fruit (an apple, orange, or berries). My 2nd goal is to decrease my intake of protein. One way I can do this is by decreasing my portion sizes. Instead of three slices of cheese, I only need one slice on my sandwich. My third goal has to do with fats. I will lower the saturated fat in my diet by replacing my weekly burger and fries with a grilled chicken burger and salad with 1 tablespoon of low-fat dressing. To make these above goals time-bound I will use a daily food journal and continue to use my Diet Analysis software weekly and reassess my progress in three months. My 4th and 5th goals are….”
3. Go to your Diet and Wellness Plus or Diet Analysis Plus+ Software and track your diet intake over 3 days (2 week days and 1 weekend day). Next, write 1 paragraph comparing your intake from the beginning of the semester to your intake at the end. Were there any significant changes in your diet habits that reflected on your reports? If not, that’s ok! Include a combination report with your Diet Analysis Summary Final submission (needs to include intake spreadsheet report and Intake vs. Goals Report) of your 3 days of intake.
Thank you! I hope you found this exercise useful and hope your nutritional status benefits from this evaluation of your current food choices.
