You will use the Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM) from Shajani and Snell (2019) to complete a comprehensive assessment of the family you worked with in Part 1. As you develop your paper, you will select 1–2 theories (i.e., the Woods Biobehavioral Family Model, Family Adjustment and Adaptation Response Model, Resiliency Model, Rolland’s Family Systems-Illness Model, or a nursing theory of your choice) to help you consider the complexities of contemporary family life and the role of the nurse practitioner.
In your paper, you will need to address all 3 major categories (structural, developmental, and functional) as discussed in Chapter 3. The focus of this assignment is to develop a plan or recommendation for a family intervention based on your assessment and use of the Calgary Family Intervention Model.
Note: This is a formal paper with the expectation of academic writing. For writing support (especially for Turnitin and APA), go to the Policies and Resources link in the course navigation menu and review the information there.

Interview 2: Assessment of Family Functioning
To prepare for this assignment, read the following in Shajani and Snell (2019):
Chapter 4: The Calgary Family Intervention Model
Chapter 10: How to Move Beyond Basic Family Nursing Skills
Chapter 11: How to Avoid the Three Most Common Errors in Family Nursing
Chapter 12: How to Terminate With Families
Chapter 13: Pulling it all Together
In your second interview, explore with the family any problems or concerns that they have identified regarding a health/illness condition or health promotion. Examples might include how a family manages a chronic illness in a family member and its impact on the whole family, the family’s adjustment to a newly diagnosed illness in a family member, family adjustment to a developmental change in the family, or how the family chooses a health promotion practice that is agreeable to the whole family.
Explore with all family members their understanding of the problem and what factors contribute to it.
Explore with all family members how their family legacy affects the health concern/problem in the family. It may be helpful to have the genogram and ecomap on hand to refer to while you discuss these things.
Create a paper that includes the following:
Family name: use a pseudonym, not the family’s actual name
Presentation of the health concern/problem
Genogram and ecomap components (from Portfolio 1 – updated and improved as needed); remember that these are 2 separate diagrams as appendices.
Significant conversational events
Summary of how the family defines and understands the health concern/problem.
A plan or recommendations for a family intervention using the Calgary Family Intervention Model and application of one family or nursing theory.
The paper must meet the following format requirements:
10–15 pages maximum (not including title page, genogram and ecomap, or the reference page), double spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font
Use the APA format for manuscript preparation (double-space, margins, header, pagination) and for reference citation. An abstract is not necessary.
Research or other sources may come from nursing and other disciplines but should be recent (within 5 years) unless you cite a landmark study. You should use at a minimum of 5 references.
