Develop a complex care scenario based on an adult patient and their family/carer

June 25, 2024

Develop a complex care
scenario based on an adult patient and their family/carers in a past placement
experience. If you are unable to do so, you can create a fictional scenario that
reflects the above. The scenario will form the basis of the critical discussion
in your presentation.
Using a bio-psychosocial
model you are required to identify the themes which lend themselves to
complexity in your scenario.
You are then
required to select TWO themes and develop a critical discussion on some
of the challenges to nursing and healthcare delivery based on those themes.
You will be required
to upload and deliver a PowerPoint presentation and critical discussion using
Panopto video software. You will receive tutorial support to help you create a
PowerPoint presentation and to use Panopto.
You must include a
slide(s) containing references underpinning the critical discussion/content in
your presentation.
Your presentation should demonstrate you have met all the
module’s learning outcomes.
Learning outcomes: 1. Debate
the challenges facing adult service users and their families/carers with
complex and challenging health and social care needs.
2. Critically explore
the nurse’s professional role in managing, coordinating, and evaluating
complex, diverse and challenging care situations
3. Critically
explore collaborative working across the contemporary and integrated health and
social care environments.
4. Appraise
and apply evidence, including policy and legislation to inform clinical
decision-making and safe, effective healthcare.
Your title slide – This should identify
the Module code, title of your presentation, your student number, and the date
of your presentation.
Introduction – You may wish to
give an overview of how your critical discussion will proceed and introduce
the subject of complex care in Adult Nursing to set the context for your
critical discussion. You may also consider addressing confidentiality of
information and its importance in the context of the presentation and nursing
care. Here you might wish to introduce your complex care scenario providing key
information relevant to the individual and scenario.
Main body – This section will
comprise several slides which highlight or give key points on the different
aspects of your critical discussion. For example, your slides might highlight
the bio-psychosocial model (physical, psychological, and social); based on the
model, identify the complex themes relevant to your scenario.
You will select TWO
of the themes you identified previously to further develop your critical
discussion. You will identify what you believe are some of the key challenges within
these thematic areas and
·
Critically discuss how and why the
challenges you identify are relevant to the individual and their carers/family in
your complex care scenario. You may wish to debate the barriers, opportunities
and effectiveness of how the needs of the individual and their carers/family were
considered, assessed, and managed (LO1, LO2)
·
Identify and critically discuss the
clinical decisions that were made, how they were made, why they were made, and
the implications for the nurse, the multi-disciplinary team, and the individual/family/carers
in your scenario (LO2, LO3).
·
Critically discuss the evidence base
supporting how clinical decisions and nursing actions were informed by the evidence-base
and appraise whether the evidence applied was current. Consider and evaluate any
opposing or contending evidence (LO3, LO4).
·
Appraise the legislation (national,
global), policy (national, local), and regulatory (NMC) frameworks relevant to
your case scenario, how they were applied to support the professional the nurse
in leading, managing, coordinating, and decision-making in your scenario (LO2,
LO4).
·
Critically analyse how collaborative
working was achieved across a range of healthcare settings (e.g., acute,
intermediate, community, and social care), as well as any voluntary
organisations. You might wish to identify which services had been involved in
your scenario, and how effective they were. You may wish to identify and analyse
any gaps, opportunities, or different ways of doing things opportunities in
service provision (LO3, LO4).
Conclusion: Your conclusion should
not be a reiteration or recap of your introduction, or an overview of what you
addressed in your discussion. The conclusion to your work should highlight some
of the key points which emerged from your critical discussion. The conclusion
should not add any new material or new discussion points. It should be succinct
and precise.
References – Please ensure you
include a slide(s) with the academic sources you used to support your
discussion. Your discussion should be supported with citations from a range of
appropriate literature throughout the presentation and this should be evident
in your reference list. It is important that you follow the Harvard referencing
format. Please ensure that you review the University’s guidelines and give
sufficient time for the assessor to view your reference list at the end of your
presentation. For the latest guidance and
policy relating to referencing at the University of Worcester please click Harvard system.

take care when developing your work to ensure the work you submit is your ‘own’
work and you have not used the words of others or their ideas without formally
referencing them.  Advice about avoiding plagiarism and ensuring the
academic integrity of your work can be found in your course handbook and in Library services.
