Please write a response to these points: One paragraph for each point is enough. Discuss two benefits of the use of electronic health records (EHRs), one related to the care of an individual patient and one related to population health. How does the use of EHRs facilitate obtaining these benefits?
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) is a more efficient way to exchange health information electronically by providing elevated quality and safe and sound care for individual patients. According to HealthIT.gov it was stated that, “The benefits of electronic health records include: Better health care by improving all aspects of patient care, including safety, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, communication, education, timeliness, efficiency, and equity.
Better health by encouraging healthier lifestyles in the entire population, including increased physical activity, better nutrition, avoidance of behavioral risks, and wider use of preventative care. Improved efficiencies and lower health care costs by promoting preventative medicine and improved coordination of health care services, as well as by reducing waste and redundant tests.
Better clinical decision making by integrating patient information from multiple sources” (HealthIT.gov, 2019). Patient safety is a number one concern for myself when I begin to practice in the medical field. Avoiding injuries to patients from the care that is supposed to protect them is a key advantage in using EHRs.
2. Describe a method by which a healthcare provider could both effectively interact with a patient and fulfill the requirements imposed by the healthcare institution’s EHR system. One method is the EHR can securely transmit data in its system to the patient.
With the means to facilitate patient-physician communication via electronic messaging it can retrieve personal records, test findings, health education tools, and tracking/assessing progress for diseases. .The second method would be an invitation to view the patients medical record by the physician.
This creates a positive relationship between the physician and the patient with the act of transparency and enhances the collaborative nature for all inquires to be asked and responded to.3. Describe how the education of healthcare professionals impacts the delivery of healthcare services in the community and around the world. There are many ways that the education of healthcare professionals impacts the delivery of healthcare services.
For one, educated providers have not only reduced patient mortality but readmission rates as well. Extensive knowledge also allows providers to perform tasks independently with a higher quality. They feel more confident in performing these tasks as well as educating their patients with correct knowledge. The education has impacted the delivery to the community as they are educated in the different trends in healthcare.4.
Describe two capabilities/competencies required of today’s healthcare professionals in addition to those related to their professional specialization and how these additional capabilities/competencies assist in the long-term process of optimizing global health. I believe that the most important capability required for healthcare professionals is critical thinking. Critical thinking is defined as the “disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication” (The Foundation for Critical Thinking).
The ability to asses a situation and think rationally about the next step could greatly impact the care a patient recieves and reduce any error. Another important capability could outstanding communication skils. Providers speak with patients, families, and coworkers on a daily basis so it is important that the proper information is accurately exchanged. This communication builds strong positive relationships that improves the patient’s capacity to follow through with medical recommendations, self-manage a chronic medical condition, and adopt preventive health behaviors.
