Describe the personality of the
character Zuko from Avatar: The last Airbender (2005) from the
perspective of two theories discussed from Theories of Personality– 11th
Edition, by Duane Schultz & Syndey Schultz. How does each theory
explain why they are they way they are and why they do what they do? You must
pick your two theories from two different personality approaches as in the
following categories (see referenced text above): Psychoanalytic;
Neopsychoanalytic; Life-Span; Genetics; Humanistic; Cognitive; Behavioral;
Social-Learning.
Please divide your paper into
the following sections and clearly label each of the following:
1). Describe the character and
the work it is from (book, movie, TV). This should be at least a long paragraph
describing the character his behaviors and broad personality traits (evil,
good, selfish, manipulative, gregarious, etc.) and their place in the overall
story, especially as relates to other characters in the plot. Of course, it
will be necessary to say something about the plot. Be sure to give specific
examples from the character’s life that can be used to illustrate the individual’s
personality through the lens of the theories you pick to explain their
behavioral and emotional functioning.
For the following discuss
these in separate sections, clearly articulating which theory you are using for
the interpretation.
2). For each theoretical
perspective explain why the character is the way they are and why they do what
they do. How would each theory explain how they may have developed their
personality (genetics, family, environment, etc.). Be sure to give specific examples
from the story/plot.
3). For each theoretical
perspective, indicate the aspects of the characters personality that cannot be
described/explained through each theory. For example, are there aspects of the
character that the chosen theory cannot account for? Be sure to give specific
examples from the story/plot.
Format: should be typed
using double-spacing and a 12-pt. font, APA 7th ed. Paper should
have a title, a cover page, page numbers on each page of text, and a reference
page. The reference page should include any course readings that you use, as
well as any online references that you incorporate. You must cite any ideas,
theories, etc. that are not your own. Whenever you refer to a concept from
external materials you must cite the reference in the text of your paper. The
final paper should be 8 to 10 pages in length.
