Literature Review Worksheet
This is a Three-Part Assignment
Part 1: Gathering Resources
Using the social problem you selected for this course, access the GCU e-library to find scholarly, peer-reviewed sources to use for your Research Proposal Summary assignment. Select ONE conceptual or theoretical peer-reviewed journal article of relevance to your proposed research study. Select THREE empirical (research) studies of relevance to your proposed research study.
All selected articles must be current (published within the last 5 years) and from peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Consider these questions when conducting your literature review: Is there an existing strategy, a community program, an agency, or a grant-funded project already addressing the social problem/issue you are interested in investigating? How might you design your own research/investigative project, based on findings from previous research studies examining the problem/issue?
Part 2: Reviewing Resources
Instructions
Note: in this part of the assignment you will review and report on your THREE selected research studies. Complete a review of each article, providing a brief response (40-100 words) to each question listed in the Article Review tables.

Article 1: Empirical (Research) Study
Article reference in APA format, including permalink (GCU Library permanent link)
Describe the overarching research study design (experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental). Describe features of the study design that indicate why this study fits with the classification you have selected. What are other ways to classify the study (e.g. evaluation study, action research, community change initiative, longitudinal study, etc.)
Briefly describe data collection methods used in the study (e.g. observation, survey, interviews, focus groups, etc.). Briefly describe data analytic methods used (e.g. statistical analysis, content analysis, etc.)
Briefly describe the study setting. Where was the study done? A community? A social service agency? A school? A prison? A police department? What collaborative partnerships were needed to implement the study? (e.g. researchers working in partnership with school staff, parents, etc.)
What strategies did the researchers adopt to strengthen study validity? Do you think this was a high quality study? Briefly explain.
Explain how research study processes and/or study findings could be adapted or applied to the design of other projects addressing your identified social problem. (In other words, what did you learn from this scholarly article that could help you design your own research project?)
To show how the source supports your research question, paraphrase or quote a section of the article that supports your research question. Cite the section you quoted or paraphrased in APA format:
Briefly summarize the most important findings of the study:
