Imagine you’re pitching your idea to potential investors: why should they be excited to fund your project? None of the modern, English-language versions of the Cleopatra story we’ve examined in this course has been created by Egyptians or produced in Egypt. Yet Cleopatra was an Egyptian queen, and not necessarily less Egyptian because she was of Macedonian origin. There is thus a need to see Cleopatra reimagined from an Egyptian perspective. I encourage you to think about this as you design your pitch, but you are also welcome to take a different approach.Whether you choose to do an essay or a recorded presentation, your pitch should include the following (not necessarily in this order, though of course the introduction and conclusion should come at the beginning and end, respectively):A catchy title.
A brief introduction.
The medium your story will employ (movie, Netflix series, podcast, video game, Instagram account), and why it’s a smart choice in today’s world.
An overview of the kind of story you will tell. Will it aim to portray accurately the events of Cleopatra’s life–if so, which events? Will it be an alternative history (e.g., it might imagine that Antony and Cleopatra won the battle of Actium instead of Octavian)? Will it be a modern story loosely inspired by Cleopatra (like Cleopatra Jones)? Will it be a video game with different possible outcomes? Explain what will appeal to audiences about the approach you choose.
Describe the main characters in your story. What will their personalities be? What actors will portray them, or what will they look like?
Describe the location(s) where your story will take place.
Describe two or three of the main events in your story.
Describe how your version will relate to three previous versions of the Cleopatra story we have examined in this course. What will you imitate, and what will you change?
Describe the target audience of your version, and why it will appeal to them.
Conclude by briefly summarizing the main points you want the investors to remember.
