Visit www.nameorg.org, the website for the National Association for Multicultural Education. Find information on submitting a conference proposal and follow the detailed instructions. Alternately, with the advance approval of the professor, you may prepare a conference proposal for another conference in your content field. However, the proposal must espouse a critical perspective as related to the content. (For example, you may choose to prepare a proposal for the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) conference. Your presentation could be a critical examination of disproportionality (overrepresentation of students of color) in special education.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation. The power point slides should guide your facilitation of the presentation. Your presentation must be active and engaging. The font size should not be smaller than 24. Include clipart and other images. Use bullets. Minimize the amount of words on each slide. The full presentation should last approximately one hour (including 15 minutes for questions and answers).
Include detailed notes for the speaker (You)
*Describe preferred room arrangement.
*Describe and list materials to be prepared in advance (e.g., handouts, tools for grouping, etc.).
*Each slide should have a script.
*Each slide should have additional information on the subject in the event of questions from the audience.
*Include citations on the bottom of each slide.
*Include a reference slide.
*Each slide should have notes to explain your use of materials (e.g., K-W-L activity, have participants respond to a case, etc.).
*Each slide should have approximate time (e.g., two minutes, a half hour, etc.).
*Mark/identify which slides/sections can be skipped if time runs out.
*Include extra activities or discussions questions and structures if extra time remains.
*Handout for participants
The handout should include key points from your presentation.
The handout may include a note-taking section.
Include a minimum of 8-10 resources (articles, websites or videos).
There should be a minimum of 5 articles.
Include a brief summary of the articles, website or video (1-2 sentences).
Briefly explain why the resources you chose to present would be of interest or value to participants
