To meet the requirements of this project, you are going to complete a critically appraised topic.
1. Identify your patient. You will need to create a patient who has a general medical problem (non-life threatening). The patient description should be thorough in demographics and activity expectations.
2. For a clinical question. Use the PICO format. This question can answer any number of things about your patient problem: what is the most effective medication for management of the problem, what is the most effective diagnostic procedure to use, what is the most effective way to manage the problem for an active lifestyle, etc.
3. Search for relevant evidence. You should have at least three peer-reviewed resources from which you will get the answer to your question. Not all of the research says the same thing, neither does all of your articles have to support the same answer. But you should be able to demonstrate from the research why your conclusion is the best conclusion for your patient outcomes.
4. Critically evaluate the evidence. Be able to demonstrate why your research is rigorous and the conclusions are strong.
5. Implement the evidence. Use the evidence to create a plan of action for your patient problem.
6. Evaluate the process. Describe how you will determine if the plan of action is working for your patient. Try to find an objective measure to determine if the plan is positively affecting your patient. Patient reported outcomes, objective measures of activity, etc. Pain and asking the patient how they feel is subjective. It is a necessary component, but look for objective measures as well.
Other criteria:
Paper should be 2-3 pages, double spaced, font size no larger than 12. Not including reference page.
Use appropriate AMA/APA citations and references.
You do not need to create a table to critique the evidence. I do want to see the criteria you
used to search the databases, which databases were used, and inclusion/exclusion
factors.
This paper should focus on the patient: description of the patient and problem, explanation of
the problem and complications or concerning factors for participation, and the plan of
action.
