A national discussion of immigration often centers around social
problems and crimes that are brought to the US by immigrants crossing the borders. Wilber Martinez-Guzman, an immigrant charged with meth-fueled killings near Reno, Nevada, was showcased by President Trump. Criminologists refer to a moral panic surrounding these cases. Describe how fear of the other drives policies.
Each student must complete and email me a powerpoint presentation of 7-8 slides on their assigned topic which will present findings on a real-life crime/condition that portrays criminological theory. Preparation should require the effort similar to a two- or three-page paper. Individual grades are earned for your effort. In the past, students have portrayed the campaigns to criminalize immigration, trials that illustrate how an underlying biological or psychological factor drove a criminal to act or macro-societal theory that describes why crime occurs. Please caption your sources in your slides or your 8th slide may list your bibliography. You must have at least 2 academic sources. I would suggest more. As in all powerpoints, because they are limited by nature, use your slides to describe the subject in a standard inquiry using who, what, where, why and how. Simple slides are preferable to busy slides in your presentation.
