MODULE 3
OBJECTIVES:
The first objective of Module 3 is to introduce summation notation that will be utilized with
most formulas for the remainder of the course. Specifically, by the completion of this lesson you
should be able to:
apply and perform the basic rules of Summation Notation
The second objective of Module 3 is to introduce ways to display data and to put your data in
picture form. Specifically, by the completion of this lesson you should be able to:
display Data using an array, a stemplot, a simple frequency distribution, a
grouped frequency distribution, and a histogram.
describe basic shapes of distributions
The third objective of Module 3 is to introduce calculation and theory associated with measures
of central tendency and measures of variability. Specifically, by the completion of this lesson
you should be able to:
compute a mean, median, and mode
identify the advantages and disadvantages of using each of the three measures
identify the relationship between the mean, median, and mode with regards to
normal, bimodal, and skewed distributions
compute a range, interquartile range, a variance, and a standard deviation
