Decision-Making Assignment
Overview – Managers and business owners make decisions on a daily basis. Some are big, like the decision to start a new business, but most are smaller decisions that go into the regular running of a company. This assignment will familiarize you with the Decision-Making Process.
Directions –
o Follow the Assignment Grading Rubric, which provides the criteria you will be graded against.
o Number each answer separately; do NOT run your answers in one long paragraph as it is often difficult to know where one answer ends and another begins.
o Answer the following:
1. Provide an example of a programmed decision that you have made. Why does this decision not need a more thorough decision-making process?
2. Think about a major decision you have made – for example, where to attend college, what job to take, whether to share an apartment with a friend, etc.
a. Briefly list each of the six steps in the decision-making process.
b. Next to each step, apply an example of the action you experienced in this major decision.
c. Did you skip any steps? Why?
d. Which step took the longest, and why?
3. From the chapter, choose one of the barriers to effective decision-making that you have personally experienced. Describe how it affected a decision you were making.
a. Spend more writing time explaining the barrier and how it affected your decision. You do not need to inform me on all the details of what happened.
4. Use terms/concepts from the chapter where appropriate.
