Curriculum Planning Assignment: ECE 113
Instructions:
1. Go to Pinterest. Create an account, if you do not already have one.
• Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that people use to collect ideas for their different projects and interests. People create and share collections (called “boards”) of visual bookmarks (called “pins”) that they use to do things like plan trips and projects, organize events or save articles and recipes. (Wikipedia)
• Youtube has a great introductory tutorial called “What Is Pinterest? Tutorial” which will help you get started
• Need more help? Pinterest’s help page contains a list of help topics, a user’s guide and a troubleshooting area.
• Still stuck? Make use of the Q&A forum in Blackboard!
2. Create two boards using the following naming conventions:
• Curriculum for Infants
• Curriculum for Toddlers
3. For each of the two boards you create, you will need to add at least 10 pins, based on the following criteria (uses the ELGs, the Early Learning Guidelines for Infants and Toddlers from Module 1 of this course):
• At least one pin showing activities from each of the following domains: Social and Emotional Development, Language Development, Cognitive Development and Physical Health and Well Being. (4 pins total, for each board)
• At least one pin for activities which can be done during each of the following daily routines: Arrivals/Departures, Rest Time, Getting Dressed, Diapering/Tolieting, Meal Times, Transitions (6 pins total, for each board)
• From the ELGs: Each pin you add will need the following information in its description when you “pin” it to your board, based on ELGs for Infants and Toddlers: 1. Developmental Domain or the selected Routine, 2. a 1-2 sentence description of what the activity is, and 3. An appropriate developmental indicator and its number.
• Selecting pins: You may search Pinterest for activities and re-pin them for some pins. Be sure to utilize the websites and resources being shared in the curriculum planning wiki. You are also welcome to create your own pins.
4. Choose two of the pins to set up two activities, one for infants and one for toddlers.
• These activities should be set up as if they are ready to go in a classroom- feel free to set them up for children and do them before submitting.
• Take a photo of each activity you create and submit it via Blackboard. You must be in the photo in order to demonstrate that you set up the activity yourself.
Submission:
1. To best utilize the grading tools in this course, you will submit the materials for this assignment separately. Scroll down from this assignment, you will find the three submission areas.
• To submit your Pinterest boards, you will go to Pinterest and click on your Curriculum Planning for Infants board. Copy the url. Open a new window for Blackboard, click on the Curriculum Project: Pinterest Submission- Infants area. Paste it into the submission box. Press submit.
• Return to Pinterest; click on your Curriculum Planning for Toddlers board. Copy the url. Open a new window for Blackboard, click on the Curriculum Project: Pinterest Submission- Toddlers area. Paste it into the submission box. Press submit.
• Now, click submit.
2. Submit each photo of the activities you set up (two total) in the Activities Submission area in the Curriculum Planning Assignment folder. Be sure to include the descriptions you used on Pinterest for each activity so that I know which activities you selected.
