This assignment meets the following Course Objectives:
Students will develop and demonstrate a greater awareness of the role of the citizen in the American system and an ability to become more politically aware and active in the local and global community.
Students will develop and demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and practices of American democracy and how they are applied in our republican form of government.
Purpose
This assignment will help us accomplish two course objectives and gain critical academic skills concerning credible research and writing skills.  This assignment will allow us to see how politics and government work in real-time and how politics affects us as citizens or residents.
Instructions
As we read about various theories and ideas in Chapter 1, we look for things in the media that illustrate and help us find real-life examples of the concepts we study. For this assignment, you will find an article in PBSC America’s News database (No exceptions) about a form of government from Chapter 1 (e.g., autocracy, oligarchy, democracy, constitutional, etc.). Choose only 1. The article/news must be less than 10 days old before your submission. Choose the article carefully so you can easily understand it, summarize it in your own words, and write this Assignment. The Turnitin score for the body of your paper can be at most 5%.
This paper is to be 1.5 to 2 pages long, and it must contain the following elements:
Introduction: Introduce your source (e.g., newspaper), title, author/s, and date of the news. Cite it in the text in APA. Explain what type of government your article is providing an example of. How does this article help you understand the chosen government? Is it about who holds power or how power is limited? Provide a detailed definition and cite our textbook. The in-text citations from your article (Rascius, 2022) and textbook must correspond with the Reference (See below) 
Body: 
Paragraphs 2-4: Summarize the article by focusing on 3 main points of the news, and cite your sources (textbook & Current Event) in the text.

12-point Times New Roman font

Use complete sentences, proper language, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
In-text citations
References page (minimum of 2 sources (textbook and the news article) for a C. Additional source and writing style will help you earn a higher grade. Include the library permalinks for all your sources in your Reference citation.
Write in your own words. Avoid direct quotes. Turnitin can be at most 5% in the body of the paper. SLC can help with writing, and Librarians can help with research, APA format, and citations.
