Cultural Diversity Clinical Assignment
My assigned culture for this presentation is: HISPANIC CULTURE
PURPOSE: Describe implications of cultural and spiritual/religious beliefs for care of
individual patients.
Engage in therapeutic communication which incorporates an acceptance of
cultural and spiritual/religious variances.
Each student will be assigned a cultural group and will give an oral presentation to their
clinical group. Using computer and library resources, select an article(s) which describes
the culture’s response to illness and disease. This article must first be approved by the
clinical instructor. Additional texts are optional. A copy of the article must be submitted
with an APA formatted bibliography. The oral presentation should include:
1. Identify Cultural Factors of Assigned Culture
• Describe characteristics unique to the culture.
• Describe traditional health values and beliefs.
• Discuss the selected culture’s response to illness and disease.
• Identify specific cultural spiritual/religious factors which may affect the patient’s
response.
2. Identify Your Cultural Background
• Describe characteristics unique to your own culture.
• Describe traditional health values and beliefs of your culture.
• Discuss your culture’s response to illness and disease.
3. Discuss Positive Nursing Strategies
• Discuss how the information may be utilized when providing nursing care.
• Identify nursing interventions for this cultural group.
• Describe the nursing implications of the cultural/spiritual/religious beliefs.
Submit a 1-page typed bibliography with at least 2 references in APA format. One
reference may include a textbook. Each student will be expected to give a 10-15 minute oral
presentation about this cultural group.
