create a Reader’s Resource Guide for an author and reading of choice.

September 7, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

Instructions
For this assignment students are required to create a Reader’s Resource Guide for an author and reading of choice. Choose from any author on the course reading list; then choose one reading (any poem, novel, short story or essay) by this author for the main focus of your project. This is a creative project for which students will put together a collection of resources to help give context and create better understanding for their author and reading.
Powerpoint works best, but you can choose any other appropriate digital format you are familiar with.
The Reader’s Guide will include the following information with citations on each individual page or slide, and a works cited listing at the end that includes a listing for your literary work. Be careful not to create a cut and paste of sources but rather summarize and paraphrase passages to make your project more of your own. *There will be penalties for each of the elements that is missing:
A title page with your author’s name and the title of your chosen literary work with your name (example: A Presentation on Willa Cather’s My Antonia by Dr. Wingerter)
Author’s bio page
A page (or two if needed) with the title of your novel along with a brief summary of it and a brief excerpt from the story that illustrates a key scene.
A full list of works published by this author (if the list is unusually long then include a list of selected highlights).
Excerpts of three critical reviews or articles of the reading along with citations included with the slide. (These should be by credible sources and not, anonymous reviews or reader’s reviews on Amazon.com. Include a citation with each review naming the source).
A list of the major themes found in thisreading and a one-page discussion of one specific theme (include a direct quote from the selection to support your point).
A list of questions—at least six—for discussion you would offer to students reading this book along with your brief answers to each.
Visual images and a layout that contributes to the visual appeal of the presentation.
One audio or video link (it could be the writer or someone reading the writer’s work, a speech, interview, etc.).
Your personal reflection explaining why you chose this topic, what you’ve learned, what surprised you, and anything else you’d like to include here.
One additional resource you find that will enhance your project
Since this is a presentation, please be mindful to make it visually appealing. Choosing an attractive and colorful format and balancing text with photos helps to better engage readers who are viewing your project.
Submit your Reader’s Guide directly to the assignment link for grading. Students opting for a Prezi presentation can just copy the web link into a Word doc and upload it as an assignment.
*Be careful to properly cite all borrowed information. Citations must be included on each individual slide when there is information borrowed from outside sources (biographical information about an author counts as borrowed information). You must also have a Works Cited page with a listing for every citation at the end of your presentation. Remember to use quotation marks around any borrowed wording, even if it’s as little as a few words. Ignoring any of the above will result in a charge of plagiarism, which comes with the penalty of a zero for the assignment.
