By Friday, 11:59 p.m., post a well-written, Chapter 15 discussion response in a 150+ word minimum paragraph that addresses the following:
Create a made-up persona from the 1600s or 1700s and tell the class the approximate year, the country, your age, gender, and social status (aristocrat, peasant, priest, servant, merchant, king, urban poor, rural poor, farmer, student, bishop, etc). Would you have argued in favor of Tyranny if you lived in the 1600s or 1700s? Explain. Keep in mind that there was a sound argument in FAVOR of tyranny in the 17th and 18th centuries, and in many ways tyranny could be attractive for many peoples.
Please post your Friday post and Saturday post separately.
5. By Saturday, 11:59 p.m., Chapter 16 Debate: Respond to the following by writing an original, 150 word analysis. Construct an original argument that makes a firm stand for side A or side B of this debate. Explain using historical details and/or examples:
Side A: The philosophes promoted the interests of the common people.
Side B: The philosophes failed to promote the interests of the common people.
6. Reply to at least two other classmates by Sunday, 11:59 p.m., at least one of which should be debating with someone you disagree with. Each post should make a significant contribution to the historical topic at hand, and be 150 words each. Why do you agree or disagree with their assertion? Avoid unsubstantial posts like “I agree” or “Good job” and really engage in the historical material.
