The purpose of this assignment is to get you familiar with your chosen director’s career, specifically regarding film-making. The sources may be film critics analyzing the director’s movies; an interview with the director himself about their work (or even a particular film or a scene in a film); or actors, writers, cinematographers, etc. discussing what it’s like to work with the director.
Utilizing video sources–YouTube, Films on Demand, Vimeo, DVD/Blu-Ray commentary–research your chosen genre director’s filmography. You may want to start with IMDb.comLinks to an external site. to search the director’s films.
Find 1+ sources. For some directors, you may find a 2-hour documentary that covers their entire film career. For other directors, you may need to watch several shorter videos on specific movies to gather sufficient information to write this summary.
You can focus on a particular aspect of the director’s works–whether it’s a broad overview of their filmography and cinematography style/techniques, recurring themes in the director’s films, recurring character-types, or maybe something very specific, like a behind-the-scenes look at one specific film the director made. However, the main focus of the video(s) should be your particular chosen director and their work(s).
