Placement Assignment
Quality Improvement (QI) provides opportunities for health
care teams to examine the care provided to patients / residents and identify
ways to improve care. By engaging in CQI, health care teams have an opportunity
to improve the quality of care provided, patient safety and patient care
outcomes. As of 2020, the CNO has added
QI to their Entry to Practice Competencies, and therefore expects nurses to
implement QI into nursing practice.
Objective:
This is a 2-part assignment that will provide an opportunity
for students to work through a QI process using the framework and tools
provided in the Health
Quality Ontario: Quality Improvement Guide.
If needed, you may refer to Development of Self II
content for a refresher on QI.
Part A:
Within the first 2 weeks of your consolidation placement,
please identify an area for improvement.
If you are having difficulty identifying an area for improvement, talk
to your preceptor, educator or nurse manager.
They may have ideas already under review or may be able to suggest areas
for improvement you could work on.
Review the Health
Quality Ontario: Quality Improvement Guide pages 1-3 & 9-12. This will outline the steps involved in
getting your QI project started. Complete the following sections of the QI
framework below:
You are not expected to implement this project, but you
are expected to thoroughly complete the framework in detail. Under each part of the framework, please pay
attention to italicized sections which will outline assignment
expectations.
