Consider you are a top adviser to the president of your country. He has been inundated with letter and emails from citizens angry about the lack of privacy they “feel” they have in today’s technological-rich society. They feel they are being followed by cameras as they drive, listened to as they talk on the phone, and watched as they pay bills via the internet. This lack of privacy, they say, is greatly interfering with their ability to enjoy their life and lifestyle.
As the presidential election is occurring the in 6 months, the president feels he needs to publish as new policy titled, “The Rights of our Citizens” in relation to the privacy of their information, including their finances, health, and other information citizens believe is personal and confidential. This policy, though, cannot greatly interfere with the ability of producers/manufacturing in finding out the buying histories and preferences of potential consumers otherwise that may impact the economy. So, it is quite the balancing act.
Since the president is quite busy, he is asking you – his top advisor on this subject – to write a 1-2 page, single-space, Executive Summary with the following headings that that addresses the following:
● Background of Issue.
● Impact on citizens. How the “perceived” lack of data privacy impacts the average citizen
● Impact on business. Why obtaining personal, even confidential, information about citizens is critical for producers/manufacturers to obtain in order to sell their products/services.
● Rights of citizens. What do you propose should be the rights of citizens/consumers in relation to their data privacy?
● Rights of business. What do you propose should be the rights afforded to producers/manufacturers in relation to obtaining information on their citizens/consumers?
● Proposed law. Finally, it appears both some citizen data must be safeguarded, yet other citizen data must be obtained by the business community in order to create a growing economy. What singular law would you suggest the president pass in order to meet this balancing action – to protect citizens while allowing business to operate?
Your paper should meet the following structural requirements:
