The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge and competencies related to conflict and negotiation in a professional or personal setting. The student will select a conflict scenario (which could be from a specific situation that they were involved in or witnessed directly) and analyze the key causes of the conflict, barriers to resolution, and effective options for reaching a settlement. The paper will include a brief description of the organizational setting in which the conflict occurred, identify major participants, explore dynamics likely to have caused and/or inflamed the situation, and explain how positions adopted by the persons involved added complexity or provided opportunities to achieve a positive resolution. The paper must be 10-12 pages in length, not including title page, references, or appendices.
