INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge and competencies related to conflict and negotiation in a professional or personal setting. The student will select a conflict scenario (which could be from a specific situation that they were involved in or witnessed directly) and analyze the key causes of the conflict, barriers to resolution, and effective options for reaching a settlement. The paper will include a brief description of the organizational setting in which the conflict occurred, identify major participants, explore dynamics likely to have caused and/or inflamed the situation, and explain how positions adopted by the persons involved added complexity or provided opportunities to achieve a positive resolution. The paper must be 10-12 pages in length, not including title page, references, or appendices.

Describe the type of organization and specific setting in which the conflict occurred if applicable (a specific department, division, etc.).
Define the root cause(s) of the conflict.
Describe the major players involved.
Identify the key barriers to resolving the conflict.
Discuss how conflict styles of participants influenced options for resolution.
Describe the process used to negotiate the conflict (were organizational managers responsible, was a professional mediator used, etc.).
Assess how communication techniques either assisted or hindered efforts at resolution.
Identify at least one missed opportunity that might have prevented the conflict from occurring or escalating.
Describe alternative resolutions that were considered.
Describe how the conflict was ultimately resolved.
Effectively applied theory and concepts of conflict management.

Assignment was written in a scholarly manner using AMA or APA style.
Work was free of grammatical and typographical errors.
