Comprehensive
Project
This project
consists of research exercises to further engage student understanding of the
key topics in the course. The format
will require well supported statements proving student’s comprehension of the
concept. Proper citation of sources is
required.
Expectations – Thoroughly supported statements addressing the key concept for
each question. One line answers will not
suffice.
Please note this can be 1-2 paragraphs to answer the questions.
1.
Using the internet, analyze the annual
reports of three companies. Explain how
these companies are using their HR processes to help the company achieve their
strategic goals.
2.
You’re the HR manager for a manufacturing organization has just finished
the strategic planning process. The company’s strategic objectives are as
follows:

Increase sales by 10% over the next three years.
·
Develop new marketing strategies which will address social marketing and
other digital marketing strategies.
·
Decrease the number of warehouse accidents by 50%.
·
Decrease costs associated with payroll and benefits.
·
Install new technology to manage warehouse orders.
How
do these strategic objectives impact HR? Develop an HR strategy describing how
you will achieve each of these objectives.

Perform an Internet search on professional
associations for your preferred career choice(you can do Executive Assistant
or Marketing Manager). Identify and describe three associations, and explain
the recruiting options listed on their websites (e.g., do they have discussion
boards or job advertisements links? How
effective are they?). What are some
other recruiting sources you would recommend for your career? Why?
4.
Interview a small business owner or an HR
Manager with the aim of writing a summary of the topic “steps the company is
taking to reduce voluntary employee turnover.”
What is the employer’s current turnover rate? How has this changed over the last several
years? What impact has COVID had on
their turnover? What might be some
suggestions to improve their turnover rate?
5. Find a
training video (at least 15 minutes in length) on YouTube from a real company
and determine how effective the video is based on the following:

Length of training relative to
training need
§ Did this training
consider a variety of learning styles?
Why or why not?
§ How could the manager
or organization measure success of employees who took the training?
§ What type of training
would you recommend?

6.
You are the HR
consultant to a small business with about 40 employees. Now the firm offers
only 5 days of vacation, 5 paid holidays, and legally mandated benefits such as
unemployment insurance payments. Develop a list of other benefits you believe
it should offer, along with your reasons for suggesting them. Keep in mind the cost for each benefit. This small company won’t be able to afford
expensive benefits.
