Medical Aspects Case Study
1.
Choose a disabling condition you would like to
explore and find out information about this condition. Find out:
a) the etiology of the condition; b) age of onset; c) if it is a chronic
condition, a disease, related to an injury, or manifests in another way; d) if
it affects diverse populations differently; and e) the treatments for it. Explain why you are interested in this
condition by providing a rationale for why you chose this condition to
research.

Then, develop your own Case Study. (Make up a case study based upon someone you
know with this condition, using your prior experiences with clients with this
disabling condition, movies, and/or a combination of these ideas). Your case study needs to have challenges
related to the type of disabling condition.

Next, explain how you, as a Rehabilitation Counselor,
would work with this individual to reach his/her maximum potential.
4.
Explain in detail how your consultant would
also assist this person in reaching his/her maximum potential.
5.
Explain how you plan to succeed with this client and
future clients with this disabling condition and other disabling
conditions. What are your overall plans
in the rehabilitation field for addressing the needs of individuals with
disabling conditions? How do you plan to
help your clients reach their maximum potential regarding their independence
and vocationally?
Assignment Structure :
Introduction: Briefly introduce the selected topic and include information
you feel is important. Be mindful of maintaining anonymity.
Sociology,
Phenomenology, and Theories Application : Using relevant
theories and models, present an analysis of the adaptation and adjustment
to disability.
Individual and Family
Assessment : Utilize tools such as diagnostic interviews,
genograms, family mapping, mental diagnostic status examinations, symptom
inventories, and psychoeducational and personality assessments to present
a comprehensive family assessment.
Diagnosis Process : Use the DSM and the ICD to identify possible diagnoses
relevant to the case. Include a discussion of differential diagnoses if
there is one.
Impact of Societal and
Personal Factors: Examine the impact of crises, trauma,
addiction, interpersonal violence, unemployment, career-life-gender role
interactions, and mental health factors on the individual adjusting to the
disability.
Cultural Factors and
Immigration: Discuss any cultural factors and
immigration-related issues affecting the individual and family and how
these factors inform counseling approaches.
Case Management and
Treatment Plans: Demonstrate your proficiency in managing
the case. Discuss any legal system interfaces, if relevant.
Conclusion:
Summarize your findings, offering an overall analysis of the case study,
potential treatment, and further study recommendations.
