My work: Boston Beer Company
The company boosts its brand while making a concerted effort to give back to society. One of its social responsibility programs is the “Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream.” This philanthropic program helps small businesses and start-up entrepreneurs in the United States through microloans and business mentoring. The company partnered with Accion, the largest nationwide lending network in America that caters to micro and small businesses. The program has provided owners of small food and beverages businesses with more than 4 million dollars that they can use for different business purposes. This enabled them to create or save jobs. Boston Beer Company also has the “Brewing and Business Experiences” program. Through this program, the company’s employees provide educational and enrichment experiences to a selected craft brewer annually. The program also allows small hospitality, food, and beverage owners to apply for a loan from $500 to $25,000. The company expanded this program in 2014 by adding a 1 million philanthropic investment. This fund is used to conduct speed coaching events in more places and grant additional microloans to small business owners.
Boston Beer Company is also committed to protecting our environment through its sustainability initiatives. Their “Green Teams” program promotes education, reusing, and recycling in their breweries. It also encourages environmental awareness among its employees and the public through communication and events. Moreover, the company aggressively recycles and reuses its materials. They refurbish the damaged wooden pallets that wholesalers return. They also recycle their brewing byproducts such as spent grain and yeast. They give these byproducts to local dairy farmers who use them as soil fertilizers or feed for animals.

Social responsibility has played a major role in today’s business world. When you look back at the historical revolution of social responsibility we can say that a lot has changed. As stated “government protection of workers and consumers to minimal” due to no programs being in place. However as government involvement has increased, so has everyone’s awareness of social responsibility of business” (pride et al. 14). Sometimes it takes one person to make a difference, former president Franklin d roservelt introduced many programs “to restore the economy and improve social conditions’ ‘ (pride et al. 14). In the past companies may have had a focused goal of only maximizing profit. However, with these programs he introduced to the business world it motivated many corporate businesses to not only focus on maximizing profit and what is best for their business but also what’s best for society and the people in it. Businesses today like VISA have many programs that portray their social responsibility such as community programs , small and micro business programs, etc. VISA strongly believes in improving the economic livelihood, businesses and the community. Their commitment to aid programs for small micro businesses is one example of their social responsibilities. As stated “ We are committed to providing tools and resources to help empower them with skills, solutions and access to networks and financial services to fund, run and grow their businesses” (visa). One of their many programs offered is called “Practical business skills’ ‘ which is a free education resource for micro businesses who want to learn on how to start, manage and grow their business. Another program they have to offer is providing resources to the community as stated. “We are committed to strengthening the communities in which we live and work by using our resources, network and the talent of our global employee base to make a positive social impact where it is most needed” (visa). They have a scholarship program that they fund to financially assist the education of black and African American high school students called “Visa black scholars and job program” (visa). Visa is one of the many companies that I can say raise awareness to social responsibility programs. Their goal is not only to maximize profit, it’s also to help improve the economic livelihood of people , business , and community.

Netflix Started its business in 1997 with the idea of renting DVDs through mail giving large companies like Blockbuster a run for there money. Eventually Netflix went from renting DVDs to on line streaming to original feature films on there site. The company started private in 1997 and as memberships increased in 2002 it became public with shares selling at $1. Netflix always believed in having a social responsibility in the environment and will go strong starting in 2022 to 2030 in fighting against green house emissions. Netflix will do so by reducing emissions by 45% by 2030 and will also donate funds to projects fighting against CO2. Netflix believes its there responsibility to protect the environment as they film all over the world and use its resources and locations to entertain viewers. Netflix and its share holders have stepped up this year by creating a systematic approach called reduce , retain , remove all emissions and be the leader in protecting the enviroment.

Facebook is an American Technology Company that allows users to sign up for free, creating a profile that allows them to connect with friends, family, work colleagues or even people they don’t know. Facebook also allows the user to upload photos, music, videos and even share their own thoughts and opinions. People use facebook to keep in touch with one another to know what is happening in the world, to keep up with new news, another thing facebook allows is sharing/reposting one another’s quotation post or photo which allows more people around the world to know who you are and what your thought are about in certain topics. You can also make phone calls and video calls and it gives you the ability to like or unlike a photo and follow whoever you wish, there’s so many new features now on facebook!
