Community Experience and Investigation Paper (5 pages APA format)
Due by 11:59PM Sunday of Module 7 (July 3rd)
You will choose a community involvement for at least 5 hours which may include volunteering at a soup kitchen, a charity event (e.g. walk, run), open 12 step meetings, community meetings etc. You can look at https://www.volunteermatch.org/covid19?l=wayne%2C+nj&searchOpps= to see virtual volunteer opportunities near you. I will post links to open Zoom support group meetings.
You must contact me before you start for approval and with contact information at the site. Try to think of a community problem that you are interested in and find a way to help out. I am here to assist you in thinking of places and making contacts. The summer session goes quickly, so start right away.
Think about the community in which you are involved: what does it look like? How many people are involved? What is the purpose? How do people involve themselves? How does that involvement address the problem?
Look in your text for information about sense of community, empowerment and other relevant topics. Use information from the text and from 5 peer reviewed articles that pertain to the topic (e.g. what works in the community, what doesn’t work, how to define the community, particular issues to attend to in the community etc).
Write a 5 page paper about the community, your experience, research about the community and the problem and future areas for research. Here is an outline:
Introduction: talk about what you are going to describe in the paper in an overview format
Description of the community and the problem.
Description of your experiences in your community involvement
Research about the community and the problem (at least 5 peer reviewed journal articles in APA format and some information from your text)
Future areas for research: what needs to be explored that hasn’t really been covered in the literature
Conclusion
Attach your proof of volunteering (See announcement with volunteer form) (100 points)
Late papers will not be accepted. If you have an extenuating circumstance, contact the professor before the due date ot the paper.
