COMMENTS FROM TEACHER:
-You are meant to be giving a story about how the prank took place, the essay is not meant to revolve around rhetorical technichs and terms used but rather an explanation of how the prank was succesful while mentioning the use of rhetorical technics as evidence of the pranks success
ESSAY RUBRIC:
CONTENT IDEAS, DEVELOPMENT, AND ORGANIZATION (80%):
Thesis (the work’s purpose)? See the comments above about sharpening and clarifying the thesis.
Description of the work? There is almost no description of the actual execution of the prank.
Avoids “padding”? The essay is almost entirely made up of unsupported generalizations.
Analysis of relevant rhetorical elements? It remains superficial. Without specific examples/evidence, there is really no real analysis.
Essay organization? See comments about adding specific evidence.
1000-word minimum? Ö
Minimum sources? Ö
Avoids Plagiarism (and provides in-text citations where required)? No in-text citations appear, which means that information from sources has not been acknowledged. That has to be corrected for the essay to avoid plagiarism and receive a passing grade.
LANGUAGE, EXPRESSION, FORMATTING (20%):
Writing is clear. Formatting is correct (but I prefer a header to the title page, and extra spaces between paragraphs can be eliminated).
It will have to be revised in order to pass because it lacks the necessary specific details, clarification and in-text source citations.
SPECIFIC COMMENTS: “Abel, claiming to be the fictional G. Clifford Prout, utilized comedy and satire to not only entertain but also to make people think more critically about media and society” For the society part, wouldn’t it be more specific to say something about attitudes concerning nudity or obscenity?
“specific topics.” Clarify
Be sure not to repeat elements that are previously mention” The combination of these rhetorical techniques directly contributed to the campaign’s impact. Abel’s use of ethos created a convincing face to SINA, and his use of irony and satire questioned how the media and society interact with content. Pathos gave the campaign memorability and appeal and logos questioned people’s intellectual participation with news and media. Abel’s mix of rhetorical techniques not only entertained but also educated the audience about the media’s effect and the importance of carefully analyzing material. Abel demonstrated through SINA that even the most ridiculous statements could thrive in the media, especially when they are stated with a authority and by somebody credible” is already said and then re stated
I will not go into details because it happens to often but be sure that every detail mentioned is backed by evidence that supports it, citattions, paraphrasing etc.
