Closely read and reread your choice of the short stories listed for this week. These, like Houseman’s poem, contain many of the themes we will be exploring throughout the course. What theme or themes can you identify, and are how are they both specific to the situation and applicable even to today’s athletes?
Next, identify and describe five literary devices used in the story that have a strong impact on its meaning and the argument it makes.
Please be sure to quote each device (short quotes) and to explain how it is used in the story. Finally, what important connections (thematic or otherwise) do you see bethween this story and Houseman’s poem? Explain your answer by describing your reasoning. All reflections should be at least three paragraphs and provide specific examples that support your argument. Approx. 300 words or more.
