Overview: We have covered a large amount of material since the beginning of the course. Choose two concepts we have covered in depth since Week 1 that you found interesting and want to learn more about. This could be information covered in the textbook or other readings, videos, podcasts, etc. Your job will be to compose a short science news article (think of the articles you have read from PBS, Scientific American, Psychology Today, etc.) about each topic that covers (one article about each topic for a total of two articles):
Why this is an important topic in Animal Behavior/Behavioral Ecology and general background information.
Specific details from the study – hypotheses, general methods, conclusions, etc.
How it relates to ‘real life’/why it is important to everyday people (in other words, answers why you are writing your article for a non-expert audience).
What psychology researchers are focusing on as next steps in exploring the topic.
I encourage you to follow your own curiosity in writing these essays – think about what you want to know more about, and why. It is likely that other people would be interested in knowing as well, and you are going to teach them. While you may use a paper we have already covered in the class, feel free to also use them to help find a study to write about – Google Scholar allows you to search for literature that cited a specific paper, which is quite helpful.
Specific Instructions: Each story should be approximately one page (double-spaced) in length. You are expected to use specific details from the study, paraphrase, and cite your sources (minimum of 2) following APA format. You may use the textbook as one of your sources. Be sure to use your own words. Do not copy directly from the text or other source material. Include an APA-style references section at the end of the quiz. Please use complete sentences and proofread your answers prior to submitting.
