Author a reflection of no fewer than 250 words responding to and reflecting on Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.”  (Note you have been provided with the reading and an audiobook excerpt in module 6.)
Begin by briefly explaining the allegory of the cave, in your own words, making sure to directly cite the reading or audiobook provided to you in your reply.
Then, directly engaging the text and writing in the first person, answer one of the following questions:
•    What does Plato’s allegory of the cave tell us about the limits of relying on our sight–on our senses–to determine what is true? Explain why you agree or disagree.
•    How did the imagined prisoner becomes free and how did he initially experienced the light of truth outside of the cave? Explain what this teaches us about the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
•    What do the philosophers think would happen if the liberated cave-dweller returned to free his friends? How would they respond? Explain whether you think they have a point and what you the story suggests about the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
•    What mistaken view of education does Socrates critique and what is his vision of genuine knowledge? Given an example of the kind of education Socrates believes is mistaken that is practiced in contemporary schooling and an example, from the present, of education that he seems to favor. Explain whether you think Socrates’ vision of education is helpful or accurate.
•    In what ways are the prisoners held captive in the cave? Are they restrained only by chains or by something else as well? Relating the “Allegory of the Cave” to your own experience, explain how it helps us think about the nature of freedom and the importance of knowledge.
•    After explaining how the prisoners in the allegory are held captive in the cave, discuss one or more examples of the “caves” people are, today, “chained” within. (You might even discuss a metaphorical cave that you were once chained in.)
Be sure to write this second part of your entry in the first person and relate your writing to your life, experience, and knowledge. Writing in the first person means you are not only permitted but required to use “I” when referring to yourself. To avoid having your entry flagged as AI generated or plagiarized, be sure to give specific details such as personal experiences and ideas.
As always, be sure to use Grammarly’s works cited generator (https://www.grammarly.com/citations/mla?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=19962285088&utm_content=654566133046&utm_term=&target=&targetid=dsa-1994941340854&adgroup=154778979584&device=c&matchtype=&placement=&network=g&extension=&clickid=Cj0KCQjwu-KiBhCsARIsAPztUF0IivRpjxOsw_89eKD_7VEmLaOZyC7fVxaQynscucieXI3BsNuBgoAaAms-EALw_wcB&gad=1&gclsrc=aw.ds) to produce an MLA style reference for the readings referenced in this journal entry.
