Choose an option and complete an essay and outline. There are two options. Each has parts A (essay) & B (outline for mock presentation). You are to choose ONE option (1 or 2), but you must complete A& B for the option you choose.
The essay & outline should be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font and double spaced. There is a requirement of one page minimum and two pages maximum in length for each document. Use parenthetical citations and a citation page with complete citations for all borrowed information in A & B. One citation page for both documents will suffice. Blatant plagiarism will receive a “0”. I choose option 1:
OPTION 1 (**Complete BOTH Parts A & B to earn the full 150 pts) Interpersonal Communication and Presentation Skills: Communication, or the lack of it, is often blamed when a relationship fails. This is valid, as positive communication is vital to a healthy relationship. Individuals may use poor language or weak listening skills and may avoid communication altogether. When this occurs, the relationship struggles. IA. CASE STUDY & ANALYSIS OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS(100 pts)
•In a typed essay tell the story of a person you are familiar with that is having trouble in their relationship. (PLEASE change the names and critical information to respect privacy, focus on the communication issues) There may be many issues, but focus on errors in communication in your description. Refer to interpersonal, language, non-verbal, listening and problem solving (group) notes.
•Select communication skills that would assist this person in improving the relationship. Explain the skill and how it would make a difference to your subject. Refer to your notes and any other sources. Include information to build skills for interpersonal communication, appropriate non- verbal and language use, better listening, and effective problem solving. Be sure to include several communication skills in your analysis.
Plan a speech using a persuasive outline format.(motivated sequence, problem solution, refutation, etc) This presentation should persuade a group to utilize communication skills to improve their relationships, both personal and professional. Again, you will not present or prepare a power point.
You will just plan the speech in an outline.
