Choose a culture you would like to learn more about (different from the “Intercultural Adventure” assignment). Ireland Halloween will be the culture.
Decide on the type of travelers you will be focusing your training toward and where this group of travelers will be going (a specific location where the culture you chose resides). A group of American High School Individuals who’ve been sent to study Halloween in Ireland on an education invitation trip.
-For example, you could choose to train a group of College students who are going to Tokyo, Japan with the Study Abroad program or you could choose to train a group of business professionals who are going to Singapore to meet with a group of new business partners.
Conduct scholarly research on the culture. Only provide quality, credible information.  You should utilize a minimum of 3-scholarly resources while creating your training. Please no Wikipedia or other generalized information websites. The research utilized must be from credible scholarly sources.
You will need to list your cited sources at the end of the slides (last slide) in the form of a bibliography, which is the same as a works cited page in  APA format because that is what is used in the field of Speech Communication.  MLA (Modern Language Association) is the format used in English. You should refer to each of your sources/articles throughout your project. Here is a link to a guide to help you cite your sources properly: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/in_text_citations_the_basics.html (Links to an external site.).
After you feel you have extensive knowledge of the culture, choose one theory/model/perspective of intercultural competence from your textbook, to help you train your chosen group of travelers to practice intercultural competence. A perspective would be The Peace Imperative which would’ve been studied Chapter 1.
Start to prepare your training session. Consider….what important information do these travelers need to know about this culture and location?
Answer the following:
What are common customs, values, beliefs, norms, and expected behaviors?
What type of food should they expect to eat?
What type of currency is utilized? What is the exchange rate in comparison to the U.S. Dollar?
How long will the flight take from Los Angeles?
What is the weather like—what kind of clothes should they bring?
What language will be spoken?
What are some key phrases in the language such as “Hello”, “Thank You” “My name is…,” “Where is the restroom”, etc.
Create 5-7 Slides (PowerPoint or Google) that will help you teach this information when training your hypothetical group of travelers.
Create 2-4 page guide for your group of travelers—12 font/single spaced. This can be a list of bullet points you think are important for your travelers to remember (key tips from your training) or to help them on their journey. It could even be a brochure for them to take with them after the training. If we were in a live session you would be handing out your guide to your trainees at the end of the session.
*Your 5-7 slides and 2-4 page guide should include:
Your answers to the questions from #5 (A-G)
An explanation of the theory/model/ or concept that you chose to focus on
Credible source citations (at least three) from the Citrus College library. (They don’t have to be from here as long as the the citations are trusted and credible.
You should also include a 3-5 minute video clip that will help your group of travelers better understand your chosen culture and prepare for a successful journey. The video clip can be from the Citrus College Library, YouTube, from a travel site,  or you can create your own.
For example, if you were training a group of travelers to prepare for a trip to Tokyo, Japan, you might show a video clip on how to bow.
You will post your final project for your classmates to review
This is your chance to have fun applying what you have learned from the class.  I look forward to seeing what you create!
make sure your files are accessible (do not lock them if they are in Google Slides). It actually works out much better if you can just copy and paste your projects rather than providing a link.
Make sure you are including at least three scholarly sources (from the Citrus College Database)  and that you are citing your sources in your project. You should cite your sources throughout the presentation and at the end of the slide presentation (as a bibliography)
