Chita Codes and All the Rest
Write an essay of 600-800 words, is one where
You essentially have to combine 3 things — and one of those things MUST be
either Lafcadio Hearn’s Chita or Jean Toomer’s Cane.
Look at the Venn diagram attached to this — you CAN use Chita AND Cane
and any other other items in any media from the list provided.
You can also use TV shows or films — directly related to the author (the film Kwaidan) or indirectly (True Detective: Season 1; Lovecraft Country).

Keeping in mind the quote from Ezra Pound, “Literature is news that stays news,” make an essay from one of the following two prompts.
1) Turn this, “………. ” that can be included: what do the pieces have to tell us about the threat level, environment (built or natural), human response, or anything else about our rich and vulnerable region.
2) Tell us — using these works from a century ago as ballast — what it means to live in the Modern South.
The essay should demonstrate a deep, not skimmed, knowledge of your source materials, with quotes and paraphrasing with proper notations in MLA style so that the reader may see where they are coming from.
The essay should be in MLA format & a works cited page.
