Chapter 25 reflects on a time in America, during the 1960 and 1970s, when many began to question authority and the status quo. Several different “movements” gained strength during this time of questioning.
For your discussion this week, please pick one movement during this time to define and explain in the first paragraph. Use the textbook if it mentions the movement you choose to write about. If you use any other source please properly cite. Why did you pick this movement?
In your second paragraph talk about the importance of the movement, goals, successes, failures and impact or legacy. Please discuss the “movement” today. Is it relevant today? Why or why not?
You will need to Google or research the movement for your second paragraph to find a related website and relative news article today. Be sure to cite the source.
There are so many movements from the 1960s and 1970s that we are still talking about today! You can discuss the Native American Indian Civil Rights Movement (AIM), Latino Activism, Gay Rights Movement (LGBT), Environmental Movement (look up GASP Links to an external site.) or Women’s Rights Movement (NOW), etc. Use your textbook, search for related news article, Google social movements of the 60s and 70s (.edu websites,) and the playlist of videos I have noted below.
Do you or your family have a personal connection to one of these movements? If so use it in your discussion. It will make your discussion rich and powerful. For example did your mom march for women’s rights in the 60s? Did you march in the Alabama Pride Day Parade in Birmingham last year?
Class, every year some student chooses to discuss the Women’s Rights Movement of the 1800s up to the 1920s. Please focus on movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks.
