This is a case study in which you have to research by answering the following research questions below. This has to be written as a script worth 7 MINUTES LONG.
Scenario
You are working at a health facility and you are asked to present a case study based on a recent patient at the next professional development meeting. The virtual meeting is mainly attended by entry level nurses, nursing students and allied health students. You are therefore specifically asked to focus on the pathophysiology behind the patient’s case information for the intended target audience.
Your target audience are your colleagues, allied health and nursing students. This audience should have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. Define and describe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Identify the most likely cause of her development of COPD.
2. Explain the pathophysiology underlying her respiratory symptoms of
cough and dyspnoea.
3. Explain the pathophysiology underlying her symptom of tiredness.
4. Identify if her arterial blood gas levels and blood pH are
below/within/or above normal range. Use the arterial blood gas
results, blood pH and COPD diagnosis to identify which acid/base
disorder she is experiencing.
5. Identify and discuss which of her signs or symptoms most likely
suggests that she also has right-sided heart failure.
6. Explain the causes and pathophysiology underlying her development
of right-sided heart failure.
Responses to the research questions with references from quality academic sources (e.g., peer reviewed journal articles, review articles and specialised textbooks).
Do not cite general, non-academic sources (patient information websites, medical news articles etc.) or inappropriate internet sources (Wikipedia, dictionary or encyclopaedia). You will need to cite between 6-15 references. You must include in-text citations in your written script.
POWERPOINT SLIDES
Your PowerPoint slides should include some text and images to enhance your presentation. This could include dot points, flow charts, images and diagrams, and key concepts.
Consider good use of style elements, e.g., colour choices, font, size, and placement of graphics and images for greatest visual effect. Visual components must be relevant to the case study, align with your narration.
REFERENCING and FORMATTING
The time limit for your presentation is seven minutes (± 15 sec). You are allowed a maximum of 10 slides. The first slide should be a title slide, which shows the name of the case study presented, the following slides are for you to present your responses to the research questions, the final two or three slides should include your reference list and an image reference list.
The reference style that you will need to use is the latest APA style – see QUT’s Cite/Write for details on the reference formatting.
Do not use bullet points in your reference list.
The reference list and image references list need to be presented separately, do not combine these lists.
All images must be referenced on the slide on which they appear, for example include the URL or author, year.
When writing the script please use numbers or markers or sub-headings for the paragraphs that match the slide so that I know which paragraph belongs to the slide/s.
Overall, one document is the script/research and the other is a Powerpoint.
Thank you
