Career Paths
Introduction to Criminal Justice
This essay counts as one exam of four exams for this semester.  The format for this essay is as follows:  double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font.  For the heading of your essay use “Career Path Introduction to Criminal.”   I will also explain this essay on the first day of class and throughout the semester to assist you.  Your essay will be due by April 15, 2024.
Introduction to Criminal Justice 101 Course Objective behind this assignment: The student will examine research in their respective careers in the criminal justice field or outside the field of criminal justice. Based on assigned videos, research, interviews and class discussions students will write a comprehensive essay to illustrate his or her ability to apply what was presented throughout the course with an emphasis on how to predict trends in the job market. The essay will demonstrate an understanding of the career choice and how to obtain this goal.

Explore the competition in your career field and chances of success. (GE-8)
General Instructions for Assignment
The textbook and the classwork throughout the semester will assist the student in writing this essay. Try to organize something “real” to say.  The essay should flow logically from beginning to end starting with your career choice and timeline on how you will accomplish this goal. The information obtained must be valid and reliable to your career.
Example approach to the paper:
Here are some “sample” questions you might think about for your essay. You may choose to address other aspects when dealing with your career path.
What college degrees are needed for your career choice?
How will you develop your portfolio to help you succeed in your career choice?
What is the hiring process for your career choice?
Does the agency require a Polygraph, as part of their screening?
What is their drug policy and tattoo policy?
Is there an academy (live in or commute) and how could this effect your family life?
Will you have to relocate your family and how will the move effect your family?
What are the benefits and retirement package if none how will you compensate?
What is the mission statement of the agency?
Does the career require long periods away from home and how does this effect family life?
Does your spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend approve of the move? (what issues can arise)
What are the job opportunities in your field and chances of succeeding? Do you have a backup plan,
Develop a timeline of when you see yourself in your career choice.
Interview someone that is already in the field of your career choice. I have listed sample       questions to ask, after the interview would you still chose this career path?
How long have you been employed in your career?
What are the requirements for your position and are their job openings in your field?
What are the pros and cons of your career and how does it affect your family life?
Does the career offer a good benefit package and retirement package?
Does this career offer promotions and advancement?
Would you choose the same career again if you had the chance to do it all over again?
The above questions are to help you with your interview process, you can ask more questions, remember this is your career choice that you will do for the next thirty years. Thirty years is a long time if you hate your job.
Does the media create a realistic view of your career?

This essay must be well thought out and must show me what you have learned this semester in Introduction of Criminal Justice which will be reviewed every day in class.  A well‑supported, flowing essay from the opening theory statement through the conclusion is essential. Critical thinking is essential for success.
Required second component for this assignment: Each essay assignment must include a reflective or metacognitive component asking students to consider and explain how the assignment fits into the broader General Education Goals.
