Capstone Paper Instructions
The goal of this project is to challenge you to apply the diagnostic concepts that you have been learning this semester to “the real world.” Although the characters in these films are fictional, they still represent a cross-section of human pathology. In other words, some people really do possess the traits that these characters portray.
To complete this project, you will watch a film that has a character or characters, which possess what was defined in the class as “abnormal behavior.” Then write a paper that includes the following:
A discussion of the personality traits and behaviors of the person who you are evaluating in the film.
2. A discussion of how the character(s) changes (either for the better or worse) as the film progresses.
3. A diagnosis of the person using DSM-V which is included in the course learning area in PDF format or as shared in your textbook.
Please use the information in your textbook. Try to determine why the person’s behavior would be considered “abnormal.” Keep in mind the difference between what may be considered a temporary problem (normal life stressors) and what is truly “abnormal” or pathological.
An extensive list of movies is available on D2L. However, you are not restricted to these movies, movies such as SPLIT, GLASS. Words on Bathroom Walls, and UNHINGED are not on the list but great movies to capture for this paper. In other words You Are Not Restricted to the list.
If you are unsure of a movie you wish to write about then simply email me and ask me if it is okay.
The paper is to be 5 pages (typed, double space) using APA format. The Cover and Reference page are required however they do not count in the content count therefore the paper should be 7 pages total!
