Bandura suggests that self-regulation comprises three internal components: self-observation, judging processes, and self-reaction. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator suggests that individuals possess unique personalities and vary in their perceptions and responses to their surroundings. (Feist et al., 2021). The personality test I took during this course revealed that I am an ENTJ. This personality type has a significant impact on my daily interactions and behavior. As an ENTJ, I exhibit extraversion, intuition, thinking, and judging traits that may affect my self-regulation.
Self-regulation begins with observing one’s own performance. Individuals evaluate their conduct by selectively focusing on certain aspects while disregarding others. While taking an exam, one’s primary concern is the accuracy and quality of their work. ENTJs are often described as individuals who possess a strong sense of organization, goal-orientation, and assertiveness (Furnham & Crump, 2005). As an ENTJ, for example, I am more likely to control my actions and bring about the results I wish through the use of logic and strategy. As an ENTJ this means that I tend to rely on logical reasoning and strategic planning to regulate your behavior and achieve desired outcomes (Briggs Myers, 1980).These characteristics have the potential to improve self-regulation by helping with long-term goal setting and focus maintenance, leading to effective decision-making. An important part of self-regulation is the judgment process that evaluates behavior in relation to established objectives. This includes individual benchmarks, performance attribution, activity valuation, and referential achievements. The judicial process, which evaluates how well people are doing about their self-defined objectives, is another component of self-regulation. Personal standards, reference performances, activity value, and performance attribution are all examples of what may fall into this category. As an individual with a propensity for judgment, I frequently engage in self-comparisons, both with others and with myself. The incurrence of unwarranted tension and anxiety can at times result from this aspect of my character, which is simultaneously advantageous and detrimental due to my perpetual pursuit of perfection.

Personality impacts internal factors in self-regulation due to it’s influences on how individuals control their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Personality traits shape individuals’ internal processes of self-regulation by influencing their motivations, emotional reactions, cognitive strategies, and behavioral tendencies. Understanding how personality interacts with self-regulation can provide insights into why people vary in their ability to regulate their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors effectively. My MBTI result was INFP, which stands for introversion, intuition, feeling, and perceiving. Introverts tend to direct their energy inward, reflecting on their thoughts, emotions, and values. This internal focus can facilitate self-regulation by promoting self-awareness and introspection, which can allow us to evaluate the value of our actions in against the goals we have set for ourselves ((Feist, Roberts, & Feist, 2021). Intuitive individuals are inclined to focus on future possibilities and patterns rather than concrete details of the present moment. This future-oriented perspective can influence self-regulation by fostering creativity, exploration, and envisioning potential outcomes. Feeling types prioritize personal values, emotions, and empathy when making decisions. This values-driven approach to decision-making can impact self-regulation by guiding behavior in alignment with deeply help beliefs and ethical principles. Perceiving types prefer to keep their options open, remaining flexible and adaptable to new information and experiences. This flexibility can influence self-regulation by allowing for spontaneous adjustments to plans and strategies as needed. By leveraging these internal factors, INFPs can cultivate a strong sense of authenticity, creativity, and personal growth in their self-regulation efforts. The Christian faith can play a significant role in self-regulation by providing individuals with a moral framework, spiritual guidance, and a source of strength and resilience. Christianity emphasizes moral principles such as love, compassion, forgiveness, honesty, integrity, and self-control. These values serve as guiding principles for self-regulation. The Christian faith also places importance on redemption, community, and purpose. These can promote self-forgiveness, accountability, and making positive contributions to society. Galatians 5:22-24 says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.” The Holy Spirit produces self-control, similar to the concept of self-regulation, within His people.
