Building on your rationale and feedback, you will explore a contemporary issue of interest to you with a theoretical framework discussed in this course (structural functionalism, conflict theory, critical theory, dramaturgy, ethnomethodology/phenomenology, poststructuralism, standpoint and intersectional theory, post-colonialism, postmodernism, globalization, actor-network theory). The goal is to produce a piece of public scholarship which (1) explains your selected issue to a general audience using your selected theory, and (2) advances a sociological claim about this event.
This creative project must be aimed at a general, lay audience. This means that you should try to avoid jargon and focus on explaining key concepts and theories using general language.
In addition to relevant course readings and primary sources (e.g., news articles), I expect you to mobilize at least two additional peer-reviewed sources (book chapters or journal articles) in this assignment.
Submission details
Due 18 April 2024 at 11:00PM on Moodle. All submissions must be in a conventional format which I can open (e.g., podcasts in MP3 or WAV format, Posters in PDF, JPEG, or PNG, social media campaigns with a URL in a Word or PDF file). If you are unsure, please speak with me before the due date.
Late submissions will receive a penalty of 5% per day unless an accommodation has been arranged in advance.
Please note that any emails within 24 hours of the deadline may not receive a response by the deadline.
