Book Review for the book “Paul McKenzie-Jones, Clyde Warrior: Tradition, Community, and Red Power (OU Press)”
The sources should only come from that book since it is about that book.
Follow the guidelines provided in the handouts for structuring and writing an academic book review. Remember, this is a book review, NOT A BOOK REPORT. As presented in the handouts and examples on Canvas, you are to: 1. Follow the structure of an academic book review exemplified in the examples. Be sure to follow the format of a bibliographical reference at top, content of the review, and ending with your name. 2. Identify the main argument/agenda/thesis the author tries to put forward with the book. 3. Provide a general discussion of the book’s contents and how they fit the thesis. 4. Provide a critical assessment of the work. What were the strong and weak points? Did the book’s contents fulfil the author’s promised thesis? What possible improvements might have made the book better? 5. Finish with a conclusion that wraps up the review and places the book in the greater literature of the topic and why or why not someone ought to read it.
A bibliographic citation of the book you are reviewing should appear at the top of every review. There are several different citation styles to
choose from, but in this class you will be using the Turabian Style. Your citation will look like the following example:
Huggins, Nathan Irvin. Slave and Citizen: The Life of Frederick Douglass. New York: Harper Collins Publishers, 1980
The completed review must be 3 pages in length. It must be typewritten (use a standard 12-point font) and double-spaced with one-inch margins. Do not include a cover page or a vinyl cover. Your name, the course number and date should appear (single-spaced) at the top of the report against the left-hand margin. The bibliographic citation should be single-spaced and should be located four spaces below the date. The body of the review must be double-spaced and will begin two spaces below the citation.
Do not just write general information, this needs to be very detailed and specificity about the book itself. When you offer a point of interest about the work, it needs to be followed up with evidence/detail. Let the reader know more about the work’s functionings. No repetitiveness.
I am uploading pdf’s that explain exactly what each paragraph should entail and how it should be structured, how to cite the sources, some examples of book reviews, and a link to a site that shows how to do the citations.
