Because our textbook gives us a very quick review of a large number of Non-Weste

July 9, 2024

Because our textbook gives us a very quick review of a large number of Non-Western theatre forms, I thought it would be great to have the opportunity to take a deeper look into theatre that has been around just as long as Western theatre, if not longer!
Please choose a theatre form that interests you, is part of your heritage, or one that you’d simply like to learn more about! You may choose one of the ones covered in the chapter (Kabuki, Bunraku, Total Theatre, Peking Opera, etc.) OR you may find another style of Non-western theatre that is not covered in the book! I will also accept research on indigenous theatre forms from the Western Hemisphere as well.
Once you have chosen your theatre form – research! You will need to at least provide three sources in a short bibliography where you found information – not wikipedia.
Things to discuss in your paper: When was this theatre form first documented? When was it thought to have begun? Was there a specific reason/purpose for it? Who does it perform for? Who are the performers? How is it viewed by the society in which it exists (supported, dismissed, or shunned)? What is the state of this style of theatre today? Discuss or mention famous directors or performers from this style of theatre. What can an audience member expect when they attend a performance of this style of theatre? What drew you to this style of theatre? What did you find most interesting after researching it?
You paper should be 12pt font, double spaced, and no fewer than 500 words – you may write up to 1000 words, if you like.
If you would like to add a page of visual aids in addition to your written work extra credit may be granted! Visual aids can be photos, or video links to examples of the style you have chosen.
Please do your own work, do not copy and paste text from sources, and cite your sources. If you need more information on how to cite sources, feel free to reach out! I am happy to help. I will be using TurnitIn to monitor how much is copied and pasted from elsewhere, so be sure to re-write everything in your own words. Do not use outside websites like Chegg, for help. These sites are not academically honest.
As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks!
