Assignment:
Research is the process of bringing together information from a variety of sources and compiling the information together in your own words. Your research topic must be one that you can use for your persuasive speech at the end of the term. Therefore, you must choose a topic and equally present both sides of the issue. Your topic must be approved by your instructor. Any paper turned in with an unapproved topic will be given a “0/150” for the final grade.
Your final paper will be 6-8 pages in length and will follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style of documentation. Please be careful when writing your paper; you are not to write in first person. This is a third person piece of writing from an informational standpoint. Do not include any personal opinion when writing.
Requirements:
1. Your final paper is 6-8 pages in length. This length requirement does not include your cover page, abstract, or reference page.
2. You must use a minimum of six sources for your paper. Two sources must be peer reviewed pieces. The remaining may be what you choose; however, there must be a mixture of sources (Internet, books, journals, video tapes, magazines, interviews, etc).
3. When you present you must equally show both sides of the topic that you researched—the pro and con. Because this paper will provide you with the information needed for your persuasive presentation, you must achieve a balance in your research. You will not display any bias towards either side of the argument, both in your writing and your speaking.
4. A rough draft of your paper must be brought to class on April 5 (50 points).
5. Your speech requirement is 4-6 minutes.
