Assignment:
From the perspective of a project manager or project champion, create the business
justification for investing your organization’s resources in a technology project within the
area of software design, database development, I.T. operations, or network
communications.
You are to clearly define the scope, time, and cost goals of the project as well as criteria
for determining the project’s success. Be realistic and creative when considering the
project’s parameters and constraints. Make sure to include references justifying the cost
and validity of the project.
If this were an actual I.T. project, your submission would be reviewed by a governance
committee with oversight of the project. As such, it should be high-level and directed
toward questions that an oversight committee would have. Include the following sections:
• Background/Introduction
• Business Objective
• Current Situation and Problem/Opportunity Statement
• Critical Assumptions and Constraints
• Analysis of Options and Recommendation
• Preliminary Project Requirements
• Budget Estimate
• Schedule Estimate
• Potential Risks
Please refer to the Writing Rubric for information on how your assignment will be
assessed. Note that special attention will be paid to spelling and punctuation; sentence
structure and grammar; professional terminology; and, the overall clarity of your writing.
Since the length of an effective business case should be kept to a minimum, the
assignment should be between 3-5 pages in length.

Lastly, you might need to do some research to understand what a project’s scope, time, and cost goals consists of.
