Assignment Written
Who Am I in the Lives of Children 25%
Who Am I In the Lives of Children?
In this assignment, students will articulate their own professional philosophy, reflect upon the personal or professional
experiences that led to the philosophy, identify the connections between their values and some of the early learning
pedagogical/curriculum leaders, founders/theorists, and finally, articulate some ways to put values into practice.
Professional Philosophy Statement (1 page)
Over the course of the program, and throughout this course, you will have been developing your values and beliefs
about children and your role in their lives as an educator. Capture this in a written philosophy statement (complete
sentences). This philosophy statement should include many of your beliefs, values and ethics as an emerging Early
Childhood Educator and reflect an understanding of course readings related to developing a philosophy. The statement
will include key features: things that you have come to recognize as important to you professionally and that you
anticipate you will apply in practice with children, families, and colleagues. Highlight/underline two of these key features
in this first section, as you will be referring to them throughout the remainder of your paper.
Influential Leaders and Theorists (1 page)
Connect each of the two (2) key features that you have highlighted in your written philosophy to early learning
pedagogical/curriculum leaders, founders/theorists, that share your beliefs, values, ethics, or whose theories coincide
with the features that you identified.
* Reference scholarly, reputable sources for the two key features in this section in a meaningful and relevant way.
Personal and Professional Experiences (1 page)
For each of the two (2) key features highlighted in your professional philosophy statement, identify why each feature
has become important to you. Be specific as you identify an experience that led you to each of these beliefs and values.
These significant experiences may be personal, professional, or academic.
* No outside references are required or suggested for this section of the assignment
Operationalization (1 page)
For each of the two (2) key features highlighted in your professional philosophy statement, identify what you believe
each feature should look or what your intent is to operationalize this in your practice working with children. Provide a
concrete example for each and make very clear and explicit links between what you say you believe (identify each of
your two key features) and what that belief would look like in practice. * Reference at least 2 scholarly sources in a
meaningful and relevant way throughout this section.
This paper should be typed and double-spaced; use 12pt Arial font; have 1-inch margins, include APA in-text citations
and reference page, use the headings provided, and follow the page requirements for each section. The assignment will
be 6 pages long (1 Cover Page, 4 Pages of Writing, 1 References Page).
